Color Portraits shot in 4x5 transparency film 1997 -2003
|

|
The 4x5 film produces a much more gritty, less glossy looking image. The result is much different than the digital counterpart. The image's bold color was created using theoretical lighting with colored gels. The large format slides themselves exhibit vibrant color, seen in the prints . |

| The Alexandria Hotel is situated in downtown Los Angeles, 5th & Spring Streets. Opened in 1906, it was one of the most socially active restaurants and hotels in its time.
Serving the Hollywood political and social elite, such as Winston Churchill, Enrico Caruso, King Edward VIII; and American presidents Taft, Wilson and Theodore Roosevelt. Charlie Chaplin and Mae West used to frequent the hotel as well. After a few decades from its opening day, the Alexandria became a more desolate and lonely building; its occupants more sinister and underworld.
It's widely believed that the Alexandria is haunted by ghosts, spirits, unexplained paranormal activity, and even vampires. Fact or fiction, the hotel seemed like a beautiful platform to draw on creatively.
However, after its recent renovation, it is argued that the Alexandria Hotel has lost much of its old world charm.
The series was shot in rooms in the Alexandria, as well as in a prodution studio.
